The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms across various parts of the country from Monday, September 23, to Wednesday, September 25, 2024. According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday, several states are expected to experience thunderstorms, with the possibility of heavy downpours leading to urban flooding in major cities.
On Monday morning, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states, while later in the day, they are expected to affect areas including Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states will likely experience morning thunderstorms, with isolated thunderstorms expected over Kwara, the FCT, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states in the afternoon and evening.
The agency also predicted rains in the southwest inland regions, particularly in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun, which will extend to coastal areas such as Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa during the morning. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos states.
NiMet warned that strong winds might accompany thunderstorms in certain areas, and residents in flood-prone regions are urged to take safety measures to avoid potential flooding. The agency advised the public, including airline operators, to stay updated on weather conditions for effective planning.
