Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York, where he will represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The trip comes on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, who tasked the Vice President with leading the Nigerian delegation at the high-level global forum.
The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President). Nkwocha noted that President Tinubu entrusted the Vice President with this responsibility to allow him to concentrate on pressing domestic issues, such as the recent devastating floods affecting parts of the country.
During the session, which runs from September 24 to 28, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in several key meetings, and hold bilateral discussions with leaders from other nations.
The theme for this year’s General Assembly is “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.” Shettima’s participation is expected to further Nigeria’s interests on the global stage, addressing issues of peace, development, and human dignity.
