An 11-hour-old baby girl in northern Gaza was injured on Friday when a strike hit her family’s home just after she was brought home from the hospital where she was born, according to Fares Afana, the chief of emergency services in the area. The attack claimed the lives of her father and uncle, while her mother and grandmother were also seriously injured.
The baby girl, who had not yet been named, sustained a wound to the back of her neck and was treated with stitches, as shown in a video from the hospital where the family was taken. She is now in stable condition, while her mother remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Kamal Adwan Hospital, according to the hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Saifiya. The baby was reported to be beside her mother in the hospital.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN that they were “not aware” of a strike in the area at the time described by witnesses, but added that they would need precise coordinates to verify the incident.
The baby’s grandfather, speaking from an ambulance, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his son and brother. He described his family as peaceful, with no ties to fighters. “We have no fighters or anything like that. I say to the world: look at us. Stop the war. Stop the war. I swear to God, we are peaceful,” he pleaded.
