The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Oyo State Command has confirmed that six people lost their lives in a road accident that occurred in Ibadan on Monday, October 14, 2024. This information was disclosed by the FRSC Sector Commander in Oyo State, Rosemary Alo, during a press briefing in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Alo revealed that the tragic accident involved four vehicles along the Ibadan-Akanran-Ijebu-Igbo Road at Amuloko. The vehicles included two TVS Bajaj tricycles, a Man Diesel Pepsi Cola truck, and a DAF truck loaded with tiles. Nineteen people were involved in the crash.
Among the casualties, six people, including a schoolchild and a mother from the first tricycle, were killed, while six others sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured victims were rushed to Amuloko City Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) mortuary.
Speaking further, Alo explained that the accident occurred when the DAF truck, reportedly due to brake failure, crushed the two tricycles ahead of it, pinning them against the Man Diesel truck. The drivers of the two trucks escaped the scene and have since remained at large.
Alo offered her condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery, reiterating the FRSC’s commitment to following up on the investigation and providing necessary support.
