Afrobeats sensation Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has reignited his longstanding feud with fellow musician David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, as the pair trade fresh insults on social media.
This latest round of verbal sparring follows a heated exchange between the two stars earlier in the year. In May, Wizkid took shots at Davido and Mavin Records head, Don Jazzy, when he referred to the producer as an “influencer” and shared an old video of Davido kneeling, pleading for new music.
However, the tension resurfaced on Tuesday when Davido teased a preview of his upcoming single for 2024. Coincidentally, Wizkid had also set the same day for the release of the first track from his much-anticipated album, Morayo.
In what many interpreted as a jab at Wizkid, Davido’s associate, Black Tycoone, tweeted, “Tell your Daddy to drop an album already.” This remark did not sit well with Wizkid, who responded with a sharp post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “P***y boys dropping mid again,” and added, “Una don tire! Make una go rest small!”
Though Wizkid avoided mentioning Davido by name, fans quickly picked up on the intended shade towards the Fem crooner. As tensions escalated, a Davido supporter accused Wizkid of stirring controversy just to sell records, tweeting, “So if you no beef @davido, your song won’t sell?”
Wizkid, unbothered, responded swiftly, “I don’t beef wack niggas! We all know he’s wack! No talent!” He then went on to criticize Davido’s entire musical catalog, labeling it as “trash,” while boasting about his own output. “80 trash! We got 80 albums for any song y’all drop! P***y boys!” he added, fueling the social media storm.
Despite the barrage of insults, Davido has not responded publicly, keeping fans guessing whether he will address the matter.
Some believe the renewed rivalry may have been triggered by Davido’s recent appearance at the UBA anniversary in the United States, where he performed for prominent guests, including billionaire Tony Elumelu. Interestingly, Wizkid, who is a UBA brand ambassador, was noticeably absent from the event, sparking further speculation about possible underlying tensions.
The feud has since sparked widespread reactions online, with fans and other celebrities weighing in on the matter. One user, @Rswagger03, suggested that Wizkid’s online antics were a publicity stunt for his upcoming album release. He tweeted, “Just beg us to promote your songs… beefing with elemi9+ won’t help your dead career or better still… ask Tems for help again.”
Another fan, @Amaruskills, downplayed the drama, stating, “Lol, fame don dey fade, he don start to dey talk small small make dem no forget am,” suggesting Wizkid was trying to stay relevant.
As of now, fans are left eagerly waiting to see if Davido will break his silence and respond to Wizkid’s latest jabs.
