The National Organising Secretary of Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, Kole Omololu, has branded former President Olusegun Obasanjo a “narcissist” following the ex-President’s recent comments labeling President Bola Tinubu as “baba-go slow.” Obasanjo made the remark while delivering a keynote address at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University in the United States.
During his address, Obasanjo expressed concerns over Nigeria’s current state, describing it as dire.
In response, Omololu dismissed Obasanjo’s critique as attention-seeking behavior and argued that Tinubu’s brief tenure has already demonstrated potential to surpass Obasanjo’s time in office. Omololu cited Tinubu’s economic reforms as a sign of Nigeria’s recovery and growth trajectory.
“This is typical Obasanjo grandstanding. As the late President Shehu Shagari wrote about him in his autobiography, ‘Beckoned To Serve,’ Obasanjo is an egotistical narcissist who cannot stand not being the centre of attention and the cynosure of all eyes. He will engage in serial acts of incitement to attract the spotlight to himself,” Omololu stated.
He also pointed to economic data to counter Obasanjo’s claims of mismanagement, noting that “on Thursday, March 28, 2024, the Nigerian Stock Exchange crossed 104,562.06 All Shares Index, a 39.84% increase year-to-date, making it the second-best performing exchange in Africa.”
Omololu questioned Obasanjo’s credibility, stating, “If you could not manage your Presidency, what moral authority do you have to call the man who has managed his government and party with almost military efficiency a mediocre?”
