Donald Trump’s transition team has confirmed that the process of selecting cabinet members will begin “in the days and weeks ahead.” Linda McMahon and Howard Lutnick, co-chairs of the transition effort, issued a statement pledging to present Trump with a “wide array of experts” from which he will build his administration.
According to the statement, Trump’s selections will be guided by a mission to implement policies designed to make life for Americans “affordable, safe, and secure.”
Although Trump has paved the way for his return to the White House, he is not yet officially president. The process will stretch over more than two months before he assumes office, with inauguration scheduled for January 20. Until then, Joe Biden will remain president, albeit with limited political influence during the transition period.
The U.S. transfer of power, often more protracted than political changes in other countries, contrasts sharply with places like the United Kingdom, where new prime ministers can take office within hours of an election outcome. As seen in July, Keir Starmer’s installation as UK prime minister occurred quickly following the polls’ closure, a stark difference to the lengthier American process.
