Army troops rescue kidnap victim in Kogi during patrol operation

Soldiers from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army rescued a kidnapped man during a routine patrol in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State on April 10. The victim, who had been held captive for over a week, was found abandoned at a cashew plantation in Aaru community after his abductors fled when they spotted the advancing military convoy. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the rescue through a post on X on Sunday, providing details of the operation that unfolded around 2:07 p.m.

The rescued man was originally abducted on April 1 from Ejiba community, also located in Yagba West Local Government Area. He spent nine days in the hands of his kidnappers before the military operation led to his freedom. The abductors abandoned him and escaped when they detected military movement towards the Dadi Kowa axis, leaving the victim in the plantation where troops eventually found him.

Military personnel stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Egbe conducted the patrol operation that resulted in the rescue. The troops were conducting routine operations across the area when they discovered the abandoned victim at the cashew plantation. Their timely arrival prevented the kidnappers from taking the man further or causing him additional harm.

After his discovery, security personnel immediately debriefed the victim to gather information about his ordeal and the identity of his abductors. The man was medically assessed to ensure he had not sustained serious injuries during his captivity. He was then reunited with his family, who were relieved to have him back after nine days of uncertainty and worry.

The rescue represents the latest in a series of military operations aimed at combating kidnapping and banditry in the Yagba West area. The 12 Brigade has intensified patrols across communities in the region to prevent further abductions and apprehend those responsible for the crime wave. Local residents have expressed appreciation for the military's efforts to secure the area and bring perpetrators to justice. The Nigerian Army is expected to continue patrols and maintain pressure on criminal elements operating in Kogi State and surrounding regions.
