Yobe State APC party members have thrown their weight behind Baba Wali, a former Secretary to the State Government, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement came at a party gathering where stakeholders cited Wali's administrative experience and track record in public service as the main reasons for backing him. Party officials said his previous role managing the state government's day-to-day affairs positioned him well to lead the state in the next election cycle.
Wali, who served as SSG under a previous administration, has been mentioned in political circles as someone with deep roots in Yobe politics and connections across the state. His supporters believe his experience navigating the bureaucracy and managing state resources gives him an edge over other potential candidates.
The endorsement represents one of the first major moves by APC leadership in Yobe ahead of the 2027 race. Other aspirants are expected to declare their intentions in the coming months as the party prepares for primary elections to select its flagbearer.
Party sources said the APC would conduct its governorship primary next year to formally choose its candidate for the general election. Wali is expected to formally announce his candidacy in the coming weeks.
