Barcelona cannot afford Kane, Bayern Munich ex-chief insists

Uli Hoeness, the former president of Bayern Munich, has dismissed suggestions that Barcelona can lure Harry Kane away from the German club this summer, saying the Spanish side simply does not have the money.

Kane, 32, is not going anywhere, Hoeness insisted. The English striker just underlined his value by scoring a hat trick in Bayern's 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, a result that crowned the club's domestic double after they had already wrapped up the Bundesliga title.

Hoeness, who ran Bayern for 40 years before stepping down in 2021, called Kane the best centre-forward in the world. In his view, Barcelona's financial situation makes any move for the striker pure fantasy. The club has struggled with money for years and cannot compete in the transfer market at the level Kane commands.

Kane joined Bayern last summer from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth around €100 million (roughly N165 billion). He has since become a cornerstone of the club's attack, and Bayern have no intention of selling. With the DFB-Pokal now in the cabinet alongside the league title, Hoeness sees no reason why Kane would leave or why Bayern would let him go.

The striker's performance against Stuttgart on Saturday, where he completed his hat trick with ease, showed exactly why Bayern value him so highly. At 32, Kane continues to deliver at the highest level, and the club's bosses are intent on building around him for the coming season. Barcelona's financial constraints mean they cannot mount a serious challenge for his signature, and Hoeness made clear that the matter is not even worth discussing.
