Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court's Kano division died on Thursday after a brief illness at Kano State Medical Centre. The court announced his death on Saturday through a statement signed by Mrs Catherine-Oby Christopher, the FHC's Director of Information, in Abuja. He has already been buried according to Islamic rites.

Justice Yunusa served on the bench with what the court described as dedication, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the administration of justice. The Federal High Court said his contributions to the judiciary and legal profession would be remembered fondly by his colleagues, members of the bar, court staff, and everyone who worked with him.

The Chief Judge, other judges, management, and staff of the Federal High Court extended their condolences to his family. In the statement, the court prayed that God would grant his family the strength to bear what it called an irreparable loss, and asked for Allah's forgiveness of his shortcomings and that he be granted Aljannatul Firdaus, the highest level of paradise in Islamic theology.

The death comes as the Nigerian judiciary continues to face the challenge of managing its bench strength across multiple divisions. Justices of the Federal High Court handle cases ranging from maritime law to taxation and constitutional matters across the country's judicial divisions.
