Kogi East APC leaders tell incumbent senator to accept primary defeat

APC leaders in Kogi East have defended the outcome of the party's primary election, telling the incumbent senator to accept the result as the will of party members.

The leaders said the primary reflected the true spirit of democracy and that the winner's emergence represented what APC members across the district wanted. They made the call as tension simmered over the primary outcome, with the incumbent senator yet to publicly accept the result.

The primary, which held recently, produced a new flagbearer for the APC in the senatorial zone. Party officials overseeing the election said the process was transparent and followed the party's guidelines.

The incumbent senator's camp has remained quiet since the primary, fuelling speculation that he may challenge the outcome or push for a rerun. The APC leaders' statement appears designed to close off that possibility before it gains traction.

Party unity will depend on whether the senator falls in line ahead of the general election. The zone is one of the APC's strongholds in Kogi State, and a prolonged dispute could weaken the party's position.
