Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has announced he will run for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. He made the declaration at a stakeholders' meeting in Agege on Tuesday, signalling his intention to contest the All Progressives Congress primaries.
Obasa told party leaders and community stakeholders at the gathering that he believes his experience in the state legislature qualifies him to represent the constituency at the national level. The announcement marks his next move after leading the Lagos Assembly, where he has held the speaker's position and built considerable influence within APC circles.
The Agege seat has become a point of focus for multiple aspirants within the ruling party ahead of the coming election cycle. Obasa's entry into the race adds another significant name to what is shaping up as a competitive primary contest in one of Lagos's most prominent federal constituencies.
He is expected to formally campaign across Agege communities to secure grassroots support before the APC primary elections. The party is yet to announce the date for its primary contests, but candidates are already positioning themselves and mobilising their networks.
