Manchester United pursues £38m deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson

Manchester United is in advanced talks to sign Atalanta's Brazilian midfielder Ederson in a deal worth £38 million, marking the club's first major recruitment push of the transfer window.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a key target for the Red Devils as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new season. Atalanta have reportedly opened negotiations with United, with both clubs moving closer to an agreement on the transfer fee and contract terms.

Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has since developed into one of Serie A's most promising midfielders. His technical ability, pressing intensity, and box-to-box work rate have caught the attention of Europe's top clubs. The player made over 30 appearances for Atalanta last season, contributing goals and assists in their run to European competition.

United's interest in the Brazilian comes as they prepare for their upcoming campaign under new management. The club has identified midfield reinforcement as a priority following departures in recent windows. Ederson's profile fits the mould of midfielder the club has been seeking: young, dynamic, and capable of competing at the highest level.

The deal, if completed, would represent a significant investment by United as they aim to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League. Financial Fair Play considerations have been addressed in the proposed structure, with payments potentially spread across the player's contract duration.

Ederson would join a crowded midfield at Old Trafford, where he would compete for starting places alongside existing options. His arrival would add depth and quality to United's engine room ahead of a season that includes domestic and European competitions.

The clubs are expected to finalise negotiations in the coming days, with United confident of completing the signing before their pre-season tour. A medical examination has been provisionally scheduled pending final agreement on terms.
