Oborevwori, deputy praise orderly APC primaries across Delta

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Monday Onyeme, have commended the All Progressives Congress for conducting peaceful primary elections across Delta State constituencies.

The two officials said the primaries reflected the party's commitment to democratic principles and internal party discipline. They spoke after voting concluded in various wards and local government areas of the state.

Oborevwori told journalists that the exercise demonstrated the APC's maturity as a political organisation. He said party members conducted themselves with civility despite the competitive nature of primary contests. The governor noted that such conduct strengthens the party ahead of general elections.

Onyeme echoed his principal's remarks, saying the peaceful atmosphere during the primaries bodes well for the party's performance in future elections. He urged party members to maintain the spirit of unity and work together regardless of the outcomes of the primary contests.

Party officials in the state said the primaries held without major incidents, though tight security was deployed to key voting centres. The APC has been working to rebuild its structures in Delta following defections and internal contests in recent years.

The primaries saw contests for various positions including senate, House of Representatives, and state assembly seats. Party officials said the exercise proceeded smoothly with accreditation and voting completed within scheduled timeframes in most centres.

Oborevwori and Onyeme are expected to lead reconciliation efforts in the coming weeks to unite party members for the general election campaigns. The APC's leadership in the state has committed to addressing grievances from candidates who lose their primary contests.
