The All Progressives Congress in Osun State says Governor Ademola Adeleke is refusing to release documents related to local government allocations, triggering a fresh row with the Accord Party over claims of financial mismanagement.
The APC made the allegation on Monday, saying the governor has blocked access to records that would show how funds meant for the 30 local government areas have been handled since Adeleke took office in November 2022. Party officials want the documents to prove their claim that money has been diverted or misused.
Accord Party, which is allied with Adeleke's government, dismissed the accusations as baseless propaganda designed to embarrass the administration. Accord said the APC is manufacturing controversy because it lost the 2022 gubernatorial election and wants to regain political ground through false claims about missing funds.
The dispute reflects deepening tensions in Osun's political space. Local government allocations have become a flashpoint because the funds represent substantial sums that directly affect development projects in communities across the state. Governors control these disbursements, making the issue sensitive during election cycles and when opposition parties seek ammunition against sitting administrations.
Adeleke's government has not publicly responded to the APC's specific demand for document release. Previous administrations in Osun have faced similar questions about local government spending, though few cases have resulted in formal investigations or prosecutions.
The APC said it would pursue the matter through legal channels if the governor continues to withhold the information. The party plans to file Freedom of Information requests and petition relevant anti-corruption agencies if necessary to access the records.
