Senator Jibrin insists he remains authentic Kogi East APC candidate

Senator Isah Jibrin has rejected reports that he withdrew from the 2027 Kogi East senatorial race, saying he remains the authentic All Progressives Congress candidate for the seat.

Jibrin's position comes amid claims in some quarters that a primary election took place and that he had stepped down from the race. He dismissed both narratives as false.

The senator, who represents Kogi East in the National Assembly, said his commitment to the APC and his constituents remains unchanged. He told journalists that his candidacy was intact and that he would contest the election in 2027.

Jibrin's statement suggests tension within the Kogi East APC chapter over the choice of who will fly the party's flag in the forthcoming election. The senator has held the seat since 2019 and is seeking re-election.

He urged party members and the public to disregard what he called misinformation about his status as the party's candidate. Jibrin said he had not attended any primary election nor submitted any withdrawal letter to the party leadership.

The senator's clarification came as the APC prepares for its 2027 general election campaign across the country. In Kogi State, various politicians have indicated interest in different positions, leading to reports of internal party contests.

Jibrin said he would continue his grassroots mobilisation and work with the party machinery to ensure victory for the APC in Kogi East come 2027. He called on supporters to remain focused and united behind his candidacy.
