St. Saviour’s, Grange dominate Lagos inter-school swimming gala

St. Saviour's and Grange School swept the medals at the 2026 Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala in Lagos, cementing their status as the nation's top junior swimming powerhouses.

The two schools dominated across multiple categories at the championship, which brought together young swimmers from across the state. St. Saviour's and Grange athletes won gold medals in the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and relay events, showing the depth of their programmes.

The gala, sponsored by Zenith Bank, featured swimmers ranging from under-10 to under-18 age groups. Competitors from over a dozen schools participated, but the gap between the top two schools and the rest was substantial. Coaches from both institutions said their success came from year-round training and investment in facilities.

A coach from St. Saviour's said the school had invested in hiring professional trainers and upgrading its pool infrastructure over the past three years. Grange's swimming director said the school prioritised identifying talent early and developing swimmers through structured programmes.

The meet served as a qualifier for the National School Sports Federation championships later this year. St. Saviour's and Grange have already secured multiple spots on the national team for inter-state competitions. Both schools are preparing their swimmers for the National Junior Championships scheduled for later this quarter.
