Tinubu, governors celebrate Fasoranti’s 100th birthday with praise

President Bola Tinubu has praised Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of Afenifere, as a man who dedicated his life to justice, democracy and the welfare of Yoruba people, marking the pan-Yoruba organisation's figurehead turning 100 on Monday.

Tinubu said Fasoranti stood out among leaders for his sacrifice and commitment to the struggle for democratic governance in Nigeria. In a statement, the President described the centenarian as someone whose legacy would inspire future generations to fight for what is right.

Several state governors also joined in celebrating Fasoranti's milestone birthday. They acknowledged his role in championing Yoruba interests and his consistency in advocacy for regional development and good governance across the Southwest.

Fasoranti has led Afenifere for decades, positioning himself as a voice for Yoruba people on national issues. His contributions to Nigeria's journey to democracy, particularly during military rule, earned him respect across political and ethnic lines. At 100, he remains active in public discourse and continues to comment on national affairs.

The birthday celebrations reflect recognition of Fasoranti's long career in activism and his influence on Nigeria's political landscape. His peers and younger leaders have regularly cited him as an example of principled leadership and unwavering commitment to causes he believes in.
