Umahi ally abandons APC in Ebonyi, destination unclear

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State has quit the party, marking another crack in the political structure that governor Francis Umahi built in the state.

The former APC stalwart has not disclosed which party he is moving to. Sources close to him say talks are ongoing with multiple platforms, but nothing is final yet.

The defection adds to the turbulence within Ebonyi's political circles following the 2023 general election. Umahi himself switched from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in 2020, a move that reshaped Ebonyi politics and brought federal appointments his way during Buhari's tenure.

The identity of the departing chieftain and the specific reasons for his exit remain unclear as of now. Political watchers in Ebonyi are monitoring whether more APC members follow suit and whether this signals a broader reorganisation of party loyalties ahead of 2027.
