Enugu govt dismisses UNN attack warning as criminal false alarm

The Enugu State Government has declared false a viral post claiming terrorists plan to attack the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, saying criminal elements spread the rumour to sow panic across the state.

Dr. Malachy Agbo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, made this known in a statement on Monday. He said the government would work with security agencies to find and prosecute whoever posted the warning.

This is not the first time, Agbo noted. Similar false alarms about attacks in Holy Ghost, Obollo Afor, Opi, Nsukka, Gariki, and Awgu circulated before. Those behind those posts hid behind the name "Anonymous" and sometimes recycled old videos, falsely claiming they showed current attacks, he said. Authorities tracked them down and prosecuted them.

The commissioner urged residents and UNN students to ignore the post and continue their normal activities without fear. Governor Peter Mbah's administration has invested heavily in security infrastructure across the state, he added, and security remains the government's priority.

Enugu State security officials are now hunting for the person or group behind the latest false alarm. Once identified, they will face justice for spreading panic.
