Ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo has been kidnapped by gunmen along refinery road, Warri in Delta State.
According to the the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Onome Onovawakpoyeya, the 36-year-old was abducted when he stopped by to buy banana on Sunday.
“Obodo was kidnapped at about 5pm on Sunday around Ishaka Hotel just along Refinery Road,” Onovawakpoyeya told Punch.
“He was with his girlfriend when he was abducted. They both stopped by the road to buy bananas.”
It should be recalled that Obodo was also abducted by gunmen in 2012, when he was on his way back from Church in Warri.
He was rescued by police who tracked the kidnappers to Isoko where they found Obodo and arrested the suspects.
The former Udinese star made 21 appearances for Nigeria between 2004 and 2008 scoring four goals.
Obodo was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2006 African Cup of Nations playing four out of the six games, he scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe.
Obodo spent most of his playing career in Italy playing for the likes of Perugia, Florentina, Udinese, Torino and Lecce.
