The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reacted to the ruling of the Abuja Court of Appeal ordering it to call off the over 7 months strike.
OduNews had earlier reported that the Appeal Court ordered the union to immediately accede to the Industrial Court ruling on ending the strike.
Reacting to the judgement, ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, said the union is yet to be officially informed of the Appeal Court’s ruling.
According to him, ASUU will review the ruling when it officially gets informed and will review the document with its legal counsel to determine the next line of action.
“We have not received the ruling, when we get it, we will review it with our lawyer and then we can take the next step”, Osodeke said.
The Appellate Court granted ASUU “conditional leave to appeal the order of the Industrial Court, while insisting that ASUU must obey the order of the lower court with effect from today, October 7.
The 3-man panel led by Justice Hamman Barka said for ASUU to file its notice of appeal within 7 days, it must show evidence that its members have resumed work immediately.
The panel held that failure to adhere to the order will make the appeal incompetent before the Court of Appeal.
