The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as its governorship candidate. The state executive members of the Labour Party visited Governor Abiodun’s residence in Iperu-Remo, where the party chairman, Comrade Michael Ashade, spoke of the Governor’s achievements and the need to sustain them until 2027. This led to the decision to throw their support behind him.
The Executive members and leadership of @NgLabour in Ogun State have endorsed and declared their support for our re-election bid.
This is a BIG Win for us and our great party, the @OfficialAPCNg in Ogun State. #ISEYA #APC2023 #DAtill2027 #DapoAbiodun #Igbega2023 pic.twitter.com/hMSYMYcGl5

Abiodun has been the Governor of Ogun State since 2019 and was due to seek re-election in 2023. However, both parties failed to agree on a restructured contract, and the Governor became a free agent. His cap hit for 2023 was set at $19.9 million.
The Labour Party’s endorsement of Abiodun represents a significant move, as the LP has become a force to be reckoned with in Ogun politics. Elections are no longer two or three horse races, and the LP’s complete support for Abiodun is seen as key and symbolic.
In response to the endorsement, Abiodun described the LP as a force that has come to redefine politics in the nation. He stated that their position in the elections indicated that they were free and fair, and thanked the LP state exco for the confidence reposed in him. Abiodun also promised to continue to be just, fair, and responsive to the people, irrespective of their political leaning.
The move by the Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party to endorse a member of the ruling APC highlights the need for collaboration and unity among political parties to drive development and progress.
