Microsoft Brings DALL-E AI Image Generator to Edge Desktop Users

Microsoft has announced the global availability of its DALL-E-powered AI image generator for desktop Edge users. This follows the integration of the image generation technology into Bing’s chatbot last month, which had already hinted at an imminent wider release.

Upon rollout, the “Image Creator” feature will be accessible from Edge’s sidebar, providing users with a seamless experience in generating images. Users can simply type in a description of the desired image, and Bing will promptly produce several matching visuals. These generated images can then be downloaded and utilized as needed.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft highlighted the utility of the Image Creator for crafting highly specific visuals for applications such as social media posts, presentations, or documents. Although this capability has been available through other means, such as OpenAI’s DALL-E, Microsoft’s Bing image creator site, the built-in image generator in Bing Chat, and various other image generators, integrating it directly into Edge’s sidebar streamlines the process, allowing users to generate images without interrupting their online activities.

To enable the Image Creator feature, users will need to manually add it to the Edge sidebar. This can be done by opening the sidebar, clicking the “+” button, and toggling the switch next to Image Creator. Microsoft has not yet provided specifics regarding the number of images users will be able to generate with the tool or a timeline for universal access.

In addition to the Image Creator, Microsoft is introducing other features to Edge, such as the Drop tool, which enables users to send files and content to themselves and sync a personal notebook across devices. Another recent addition is “Browser essentials,” a feature designed to showcase Edge’s efficiency and malware-scanning capabilities. However, this functionality is currently only available in early-access builds.
