Lampard's Return to Chelsea Begins with Disappointing Loss to Wolves

Frank Lampard’s much-anticipated return to Chelsea commenced with a 1-0 defeat against Wolves on Saturday, marking a disappointing start for the former Blues midfielder. Lampard’s surprise appointment as interim manager came on Thursday, following Graham Potter’s dismissal after just seven months in charge. However, Lampard’s presence failed to provide an immediate boost for the team.

Chelsea, now on their third manager this season after Thomas Tuchel’s sacking in September and Potter’s recent departure, remains in 11th place following a fourth consecutive game without victory. Lampard, who holds the record for most goals scored by a Chelsea player, was unable to inspire his team to overcome their slump.

The winning goal for Wolves came in the 32nd minute, with Matheus Nunes scoring a brilliant half-volley from the edge of the area, finding the far corner of the net. The setback marks a challenging return for Lampard, who was fired by Everton in January after less than a year at the helm.

With the loss behind him, Lampard’s focus will now shift to the upcoming Champions League quarter-final first leg against reigning champions Real Madrid on Wednesday. The Blues will be looking to secure a positive result in this crucial European encounter under their new interim manager.
