Khloe Kardashian has made a notable change regarding the last name of her son, opting to include Tristan Thompson’s surname instead of exclusively using the Kardashian name, according to sources with direct knowledge of the situation.
Initially, Khloe legally registered her son as a Kardashian, and it appears that Tatum, his current name, was not his original first name. The precise first name chosen by Khloe remains unknown at this time.
However, it has been revealed that Khloe eventually decided to amend her son’s name, replacing Kardashian with Thompson, resulting in Tatum Thompson becoming his official legal name.
The reasons behind Khloe’s initial decision to exclude Tristan Thompson from their son’s name are seemingly linked to Tristan’s involvement with another woman named Maralee Nichols. Reports emerged that Tristan impregnated Nichols after Khloe and Tristan had already decided to proceed with a surrogate to carry their child.
In July 2022, TMZ broke the story about the surrogacy, which was just a couple of months after the news of Tristan’s affair with Nichols surfaced. About a month later, Tatum was born, implying that Khloe and Tristan had numerous issues to navigate during that period. Given the circumstances, it is understandable that Khloe wanted her son to bear her last name.
Fortunately, the situation has improved since then, which likely prompted Khloe to modify Tatum’s legal name to include Thompson.
