Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde is facing a four-match ban for allegedly punching Villarreal’s Alex Baena during the 2022-23 season. The incident occurred after Villarreal defeated Real 3-2 in a La Liga match in April. Reports initially suggested Valverde could be suspended for up to 12 games, but recent investigations have resulted in a reduced ban.
Spanish outlet Cope reported that Valverde will miss the opening four games of Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga season. The matches include fixtures against Athletic Club, Almeria, Celta Vigo, and Getafe. However, there are uncertainties regarding Valverde’s future at the club as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City have shown interest in the talented midfielder.
Valverde’s playing time may be affected by the arrival of Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid during the summer transfer window. With Bellingham’s addition, Valverde’s minutes on the field could be limited. In the previous season, Valverde made 34 appearances in La Liga, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.
As Real Madrid prepares for the 2023-24 season, Valverde’s future must be resolved promptly. The club is scheduled to embark on a tour of the United States, with their first match against AC Milan on July 23.
