Nasarawa State Labour Party Calls for Peaceful Resolution of Assembly Crisis

The Labour Party in Nasarawa State has urged a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis in the State House of Assembly. Recall that discord erupted after two speakers, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi and Hon. Daniel Ogazi, were elected during the Speaker election for the 7th Assembly on June 6, 2023. Since then, assembly members-elect have been divided into two factions.

In a press briefing in Lafia, Alexander Ombugu, the state Labour Party Chairman, cautioned that failure to amicably resolve the crisis could incite violence among political group supporters. He called on security agencies to ensure their personnel were adequately deployed across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas to prevent any breach of peace and order.

Ombugu lamented, “The ongoing leadership crisis at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly is very unfortunate. The 24 members-elect had the opportunity to address issues before the day of the Speakership election but they did not do the needful.”

Ombugu further expressed confidence in the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, asserting that he would triumph in the ongoing Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja. He also called on the judiciary to maintain its integrity in spite of potential intimidation from unscrupulous politicians.

Ombugu said, “At a time like this, members of the judiciary and security personnel are likely to face intimidation from politicians who are greedy and desperate. But I want to urge them to continue to discharge their duties according to the laws guarding their professions, for the betterment of our dear country, Nigeria.”

Finally, Ombugu thanked Labour Party supporters nationwide and urged them to pray for the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, for his successful leadership of the party to greater heights.
