Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to Nigeria’s progress, stating that his desperation lies in seeing the country work, rather than securing the presidency. Obi made this declaration during a recent appearance on New Central TV.
When asked about the possibility of him running as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, Obi emphasized that his primary goal is national progress, not personal ambition. “Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he said. “If I see people who can do the work better, I will.”
Obi also addressed rumors suggesting that he may leave the Labour Party due to internal leadership conflicts. He dismissed such claims, saying, “I would be here and if anybody is coming for us to negotiate or to come together, he must tell me what his purposes are.”
The potential alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been a subject of speculation ahead of the 2027 elections, though no formal announcement has been made.
