Abdulmumuni Abiola, one of the sons of late Nigerian businessman and politician, Chief MKO Abiola, has expressed his deep resentment towards his elder brother, Kola Abiola, accusing him of withholding their father’s inheritance from the family. In a candid discussion on the Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, Abdulmumuni stated that Kola had refused to distribute funds willed to the children of the late MKO Abiola.
Abdulmumuni revealed that their father had left £650,000 for his first four wives, but Kola allegedly failed to release the money to them. He explained that all the qualifying children underwent blood tests to ensure proper identification, yet the process was stalled by his elder brother.
“We did blood tests, and we had a list of qualifying children,” Abdulmumuni shared during the podcast. “If you look at the will, it is very systematic. He (MKO Abiola) named the wives and apportioned money to each of them.”
According to Abdulmumuni, his mother, Kudirat Olayinka Abiola, was allocated £150,000 in the will. However, Kola, citing British legal procedures, reportedly refused to release the money due to Kudirat’s passing before MKO’s death.
“At the time, Kola said that because my mum died before my dad, British law wouldn’t allow him to release the £150,000 to us,” Abdulmumuni added. “He also mentioned that his own mother didn’t receive the £300,000 willed to her because she too had passed away, but he is the one sharing the money, so it’s odd.”
He further alleged that Kola had sold their mother’s apartment in the UK without informing him or his siblings. “Before we knew anything, Kola had sold the property without telling my brothers or sister,” he stated, implying a deliberate attempt to sideline his mother’s side of the family.
The bitterness between the siblings has deepened, with Abdulmumuni affirming that he may never forgive Kola for his actions. “They were systematic in trying to impoverish my mum’s side of the family. For that reason, I don’t think I will be able to forgive him,” he declared.
