Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is set to release her medical report on Saturday, confirming her fitness for the presidency, according to her campaign. The move is aimed at pressuring her rival, Donald Trump, to disclose his own health records as the 2024 election approaches.
An adviser from Harris’s campaign revealed that the report will highlight her “physical and mental resiliency” to carry out the demanding role of president. The report is seen as a strategic attempt to shift attention towards the health and mental acuity of the 78-year-old Trump, who has not released any comprehensive medical information since the campaign began.
Trump, who became the Republican presidential nominee after 81-year-old President Joe Biden stepped down from the race in July, has so far resisted calls to provide detailed health records. Biden’s withdrawal came after a poorly received debate performance against Trump, which raised concerns within the Democratic Party about his mental sharpness.
Despite his age, Trump’s energetic public appearances have bolstered his position in the tight race against Harris, leading to less scrutiny of his physical condition. The upcoming November 5 election has been highly competitive, with both candidates facing intense public and media scrutiny.
Harris’s campaign has pointed to recent New York Times articles questioning Trump’s decision to withhold essential health details. The newspaper’s analysis also examined Trump’s speeches, noting they have grown increasingly long, erratic, and vulgar, suggesting possible cognitive decline, according to some experts.
While Trump has repeatedly claimed he is in good health, he has yet to release a full medical report during his current campaign. In late 2023, Trump published a brief note from his former White House physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, declaring him “excellent,” but the statement lacked specific details about his physical exams.
Trump’s health became a focal point in July 2023 when he survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, where a bullet grazed his ear. Dr. Jackson later confirmed that Trump was recovering well from the incident.
Trump has also boasted about passing a cognitive test during his presidency in 2018 but mistakenly referred to Dr. Ronny Jackson as “Ronny Johnson” during the announcement, raising eyebrows.
If elected, Trump would be 82 years old by the end of his second term in office, adding to the ongoing debate about the age and health of U.S. presidential candidates.
