Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has approved a ₦75,000 minimum wage for civil servants, effective Monday, October 28, 2024. The announcement, made shortly after a Holy Mass at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki, signals the state’s response to rising economic pressures affecting workers across Nigeria.
According to a statement by Chief Press Secretary Dr. Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru explained that the decision was based on an in-depth review of current economic conditions. Under the new structure, civil servants on grade level 2 will receive the full minimum wage of ₦75,000, while those on grade level 3 and above will benefit from a ₦40,000 increase across the board.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Nwifuru appointed new General Managers for two significant state industries. Dr. Obinna Ezenkwa will oversee the Umuoghara Pulverization Plant, while Barrister Uchenna Otuh has been appointed to lead the Ezzamgbo Pipe Production Factory. The Governor highlighted the expertise of both appointees as essential to driving growth and development in these sectors, urging them to utilize their skills to enhance state productivity.
He also called on Ebonyi stakeholders to support the new General Managers in advancing the industries, emphasizing that their success would contribute positively to the state’s economy.
