Senate to Begin Screening of Tinubu’s New Ministerial Nominees Tomorrow

Nominees Rush to Submit Documentation Ahead of Senate Screening Set for October 29

Senate to Begin Screening of Tinubu's New Ministerial Nominees Tomorrow

The Senate will begin its screening of the latest ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The nominees, already cleared by the Department of State Services (DSS), were seen on Monday submitting their credentials at the office of Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, to meet the documentation deadline.

Senator Lado confirmed in a statement that the nominees have started the documentation process ahead of tomorrow’s scheduled screening. “The nominees are already submitting relevant documents as part of the screening and confirmation procedures,” the statement read, highlighting that the process aligns with Section 147 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).

The nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, proposed as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development; Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing; and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education.

President Tinubu formally requested the Senate’s swift action in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio last week. Following its presentation during plenary, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration. He said, “Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request is referred to the committee of the whole for consideration very soon.”
