The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has underscored the critical role the Dangote Refinery plays in enhancing the country’s manufacturing value chain, describing it as a dependable source for fuel and petrochemical products necessary for improving capacity utilization and fostering value addition within the sector.
Francis Meshioye, President of MAN, made these remarks following a visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Petrochemical Complex, and Fertilizer Plant. Meshioye called for concerted support from both the Nigerian public and the government to ensure that the refinery operates at its maximum potential.
He noted that such backing would serve as a motivator for additional investments in the country’s downstream petroleum sector.
Meshioye praised the refinery’s transformative impact on Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. According to him, it not only generates employment opportunities and boosts economic growth but also enhances the nation’s energy security and promotes self-reliance.
He stated, “The company has the capacity to produce all our needs locally, petroleum, and other similar products: no one would come to the facility and would not be inspired or encouraged to ensure that all the support that the company requires should be given to it.”
Meshioye emphasized the importance of providing essential support to the refinery for Nigeria’s economic advantage, pointing out that the facility can meet the country’s local demand while surplus production would be exported, thereby earning foreign exchange revenue for the nation.
“Whether we consider the local needs or the export benefits, the facility requires the government’s support to function effectively,” he said.
The MAN President concluded by expressing that the success of the Dangote Refinery should inspire the broader manufacturing industry across Nigeria, demonstrating what can be achieved with effective support and investment.
