New funds set to transform agriculture and infrastructure in Kano, officials say.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a N95 billion fund for the rehabilitation of over 16 dams in Kano State and the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road, a project aimed at linking the southern part of the region to Kano city.
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the newly appointed Executive Director of Finance at the Hadejia River Basin Development Authority, disclosed the development in a statement, emphasizing its potential to enhance agricultural output through improved irrigation.
“Without mincing words, the inauguration of the technical committee to evaluate the Kano dams, including the Challawa Gorge Dam and Tiga Dam, among others, will enhance irrigation and improve agricultural productivity. This aligns with the efforts of the Hon. Minister Joseph Utsev to maximize these facilities in Kano,” Kwankwaso stated.
He praised the efforts of Senator Kawu Sumaila in securing the funds and highlighted the role of Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin in advancing the project through the North West Development Commission. “The appropriation of N95 billion for the rehabilitation of dams in Kano underscores the commendable efforts of Mr President,” he added.
Kwankwaso assured that his leadership, alongside a robust team, is committed to delivering on President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring development for Kano and the northern region by 2027.
Expressing gratitude, Kwankwaso thanked President Tinubu, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other party leaders for their unwavering support. He lauded the team’s competence, describing their collective goal as advancing Tinubu’s vision for the nation.
On infrastructure, Kwankwaso noted key projects such as the Kano-Kaduna-Abuja expressway and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, set for completion by 2025, as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to northern development.
“This administration’s determination to complete these vital projects further underscores the President’s genuine commitment to Kano and the North,” he affirmed.
