Residents of Osun State took to the streets to protest what they say is partisan deployment of electoral officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The demonstrators claimed the Independent National Electoral Commission moved INEC staff from other states into Osun in a way that favours one political side over another. They argue the transfers show the electoral body is not neutral in how it will conduct the election.
The protest reflects growing tensions in the state as candidates prepare for the gubernatorial race. Opposition groups have raised concerns about the readiness and impartiality of the electoral umpire, saying the movement of officials signals predetermined outcomes.
Osun voters will head to the polls on August 15 to elect a new governor. INEC has not yet responded to the allegations of partisan deployment.
