Bridge collapse halts traffic on Ilorin-Igbeti highway in Kwara

A bridge on the Ilorin-Igbeti highway in Kwara State has collapsed, bringing vehicular movement to a halt and leaving commuters stranded on one of the state's busiest routes.

The collapse occurred on the critical link connecting Ilorin, the state capital, to Igbeti, cutting off passage for hundreds of vehicles that use the road daily. The extent of the damage has forced the government to reroute traffic to alternative routes while assessing the structural failure.

Commuters travelling along the corridor faced long delays as they waited for clearance to proceed on alternate paths. The incident has disrupted commercial activities and left transport operators scrambling to adapt their routes to accommodate the closure.

Kwara State authorities have begun investigations into what caused the bridge to fail. The government has committed to diverting traffic away from the collapsed structure while working on restoration efforts. Officials have not yet announced a timeline for repairs or when the highway will reopen to normal traffic flow.
