Nigerian singer Jaywon has arrested by the police for violating the COVID-19 curfew.

Jaywon, whose real name is Iledare Olajuwonlo-James, was intercepted by policemen at about 11pm on Monday, May 4, 2020.

He was then taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Panti, Yaba, where he was charged before a mobile court after his statement was taken.

According to reports, the artist was arraigned before a magistrate court on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. He pleaded guilty and was ordered by the presiding magistrate to pay a fine of N10,000.

Jaywon was also sentenced to 30 minutes of community service.

Punch reached out to the state public relations officer, Mr. Bala Elkana, and he said the singer was among the 179 persons arrested for violating the curfew and refusing to wear face masks.

As part of the safety measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Lagos State government had mandated the use of face masks for all moving about, in addition to President Muhammadu Buhari‘s directive that a curfew (8pm to 6am) be put in place.
