Sudan’s hosted President Omar al-Basir was summoned by prosecutors on Tuesday over the 1989 coup that brought him to power. His lawyer said.
His legal team did not attend the summon that lasted for an hour amid chants from protesters outside the prosecutor’s office. However, Omar attended against is legal’s team advice.
The former Prime Minister of Sudan is currently held at Kober prison in Khartoum.
Recalled that in November, Sudanese authorities filed charges against Omar and some of his aides for plotting the 1989 coup. If found guilty, he could face death penalty or life imprisonment under the Sudanese law.
Mr Omar al-Basir is currently facing two charges.
In May, he was charged with incitement and involvement in the killing of protesters. Also there was a verdict of another case where he was charged with possessing elicit foreign currency and corruption is expected on Saturday.
