Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari, has urged state governments across the country to issue a total lockdown so as to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

She stated this on Monday after the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported five new cases of in the country.

Reacting through her official twitter handle, Aisha Buhari said:

“It is commendable that state governors have closed down schools; however, this could be counterproductive if parents are still going to work. We should not isolate students and expose their parents.

Let us remember that they will meet at home. #TotalLockDown#StayAtHome,” she added.

The NCDC on Monday also revealed that Nigeria has recorded its first death from Coronavirus.

The patient, now identified as Suleiman Achimugu, former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), died at 2am on Monday.

The deceased, a native of Kogi state, was said to have returned from the UK two weeks ago.
