The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said that he is ready to face trial if the court could guarantee his safety.

The statement was made through his counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, to the presiding Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Binta Nyako, on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Ejiofor urged the court to restore Kanu’s bail so that his safety would be certain if he returned to the country.

We have an application for bail filed on April 1, 2019, the application was served on the prosecution and it is ripped for hearing. We urge the court to restore his bail on the ground that the court will guarantee his safety when he comes back to the country to continue his trial.

Ejiofor urged the court to restore Kanu’s bail so that his safety would be certain if he returned to the country but Justice Nyako adjourned the case till January 16, stating that even Judges were no longer safe in the country.

She had ordered Kanu’s re-arrest after giving a ruling revoking the bail granted to him. She finally declared that the trial would continue despite the absence of the IPOB leader and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
