New York City has agreed to pay $21,500 to over 300 protesters who were allegedly beaten and boxed in by police during racial justice protests in 2020. The settlement, which still requires court approval, would become one of the largest amounts ever awarded per person in a mass arrest case. The class-action lawsuit accused the NYPD of a brutal response to protests that followed George Floyd's murder.
