Zoe Saldana has signed on to star in Sabaya, a thriller based on the real-life events that led to the 2015 U.S. Special Forces raid that killed a top ISIS leader.
Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct based on a script from William Monahan and Saldana will play a female CIA officer who befriends a recently escaped ISIS sex slave known in their dialect as “Sabaya.”
The 15-year-old girl who is not literate works with Saldana’s character to piece together her experiences and the CIA officer discovers that the teenager has pinpointed the nerve center of the Caliphate. This leads to the raid on the young girl’s site of captivity, resulting in the end of the Islamic State.
Saldana stated that she was honored to be part of the story, saying how grateful she was to immortalize the young woman’s story.
