An official set photo from the sequel of James Cameron’s Avatar has been released.
The image was shared on social media to mark the end of shooting for 2019 and Cameron and the members of the crew will take a break for the holidays before resuming early next year.
Avatar was a pace-setting movie that went on to become one of the most financially successful films of all-time. Its groundbreaking special effects and the CGI rendering of alien characters and environment earned it awards as well as universal praise from critics and fans.
It centered on a cripple who gets a chance to make a difference when he is introduced to a program that sees his consciousness transferred to the body of an alien. Captivated by the new world and its people, the protagonist teams up with his new friends to protect it from outside threats.
The image shown reveals that not everything in the upcoming film is CGI. The photograph shows a massive set with a visible water tank.

It’s taken years for the sequel to come to the big screen and we have a little over a year before the first of the four planned sequels arrives.
Avatar 2 will deal with the exploration of the oceans of Pandora (the alien world) and the return of the original cast members; Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Giovanni Ribisi.
