Yahya Abdul-Mateen has been reportedly confirmed to play a young Morpheus in the upcoming Matrix 4 movie.
There have been rumors that the Aquaman actor would play a younger version of Laurence Fishburne’s character and now they have been confirmed to be true.
Morpheus was one of the most important people in the Matrix franchise as he was responsible for the discovery of ‘The One’. He mentored and trained Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) to believe in himself and ultimately prevail in the war against the machines.
Laurence Fishburne gave a mesmerizing performance as the Captain who was a fearless and inspiring leader. His unwavering courage and staunch determination made him one of the films’ most iconic characters.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen’s casting shows that the director Lana Wachowski believes in his acting abilities to portray a younger Morpheus and it also indicates that his past will be explored or perhaps time travel may feature in the plot.
Abdul-Mateen’s role in Aquaman was that of the secondary antagonist whose plan to kill the titular superhero backfires. His motivation was understood and his antagonistic nature justified. The black-skinned actor showed a lot of promise and that has obviously led to more doors of opportunities being opened.
The fourth movie in The Matrix franchise hasn’t got an official title yet neither has a release date been set. Odu News will keep you informed with updates as they surface.
