Wonder Woman 1984 actress Gal Gadot has addressed the issue of the character not having her sword and shield with her in the sequel.
Those who watched the recent trailer must have noticed that Diana used only the lasso as a primary weapon and this must have raised questions in their minds.
Gadot has clarified why the superhero has chosen to do away with both the sword and shield, saying that as a goddess, her abilities are sufficient so her fighting skills and the lasso are all that is needed.
We had an intention to let go of the sword because there’s something very aggressive with the sword. If you have a sword you need to use it, so we wanted to give that up and we didn’t feel that the shield was necessary either. She’s a goddess, she can fight, she’s super strong, and she has the skills and the lasso.Gal Gadot – screenrant.com
Gadot’s comments contradict the events of both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League where Diana was seen using sword, shield, and lasso in combat. Understandably, the producers have chosen to ignore the continuity of those movies so that shouldn’t be a major issue.
Wonder Woman will have a foe unlike any she has faced before in the villain known as Cheetah – an enemy that is both strong as fast, matching Diana’s god-like powers. It’s an epic confrontation for the ages and Wonder Woman 1984 release date (June 5, 2020) couldn’t come any sooner.
