Arsenal supporters should brace themselves for a transfer announcement in the coming hours if reports are to be true.
The January window has been open for just over three weeks and there has been plenty of players linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, but as of yet no new faces have arrived.
A season-ending injury to Calum Chambers has forced the Gunners to look for a central defender which has prompted links to the likes of Jerome Boateng, Dayot Upamecano and John Stones.
Mykola Matviyenko became the latest name on Arsenal’s radar this week and football.london revealed that there is interest in the Shakhtar Donetsk, and a loan deal was being explored.
However, the Ukraine international isn’t the player who is reportedly close to becoming the north London outfit’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Instead, that honour is set to fall on Flamengo centre-back Pablo Mari.
According to reports in Brazil, the 26-year-old has already bid farewell to his teammates and coaching staff at the Maracanã Stadium and is on his way to London to complete a £7.5m transfer.
Just to excite Gunners fans, even more, Mari has been ‘spotted’ at an airport with the club’s Technical Director Edu which would suggest the deal is close to completion.
