House of the Dragon, the prequel of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones will reign fire when it launches in 2022.
The final season of Game of Thrones was highly controversial as it didn’t end the way many wanted it to. That didn’t stop it from winning awards and building on its phenomenal impact, a spinoff series was ordered at HBO.
Titled House of the Dragon, the upcoming series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a novel that chronicles the history of the Targaryen bloodline, beginning with Aegon the Conqueror.
Fire & Blood recounts the events of the Targaryens who fought to hold on to the Iron Throne, leading to the civil war known as the ‘Dance of Dragons’ that nearly wiped out their dynasty.
In a chat with Deadline, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys stated that the prequel series will debut in 2022, adding that it was too early to chip in specifics.
For me for right now, I think getting House of the Dragon on the air will be the number one priority. There are no other blinking green lights or anything like that. Sometime down the road who knows, but there are no immediate plans. We are all focusing on House of the Dragon.Casey Bloys
As fans await the return to Westeros, they can count on the prequel series leaving the kind of indelible impression that its sequel left. And we also hope to see well-fleshed out characters and unpredictable plot twists as well.
