Aquaman director James Wan is set to executive produce a three-part animated mini-series on the DC superhero which will debut on HBO Max.

The filmmaker who will also direct the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster will return to take fans back to the world of the underwater kingdom in the mini-series titled Aquaman: King of Atlantis.

The plot of the upcoming animated mini-series will see the trident-wielding hero ascend the throne of Atlantis for the first time and realize that being in charge is not an easy thing.

With his half-brother Orm trying to take the kingdom for himself, Arthur must also deal with the surface dwellers causing problems under the sea and the dangers of ancient evils as he tries to prove that he is the right ruler for the job.

Atlantis’ new king must learn some new skills and trust in the counsel of Vulko and Mera as he struggles to get a grip on things.

Sarah Aubrey, head of Original Content for HBO Max said:

This DC property is a fan-favorite rich with well-known characters and dynamic storylines. On the heels of Warner Bros. Pictures’ box office smash hit, we are certain Aquaman: King of Atlantis will be an exciting addition to our already robust slate of kids and family programming.

Whether or not Jason Momoa will be lending his voice to the production is something that hasn’t been ascertained but we can surmise that Wan’s involvement will take the mini-series to the heights of greatness.

Aquaman sequel will be released on December 16, 2022.
